US tornado history and tornado paths, 1950–2025

Every tornado in the NOAA record since 1950: where it touched down, where it lifted, how it was rated and who it killed, by state, county and city.

From 1950 through 2025, the NOAA Storm Prediction Center record lists 73,378 tornadoes in the 48 contiguous states and DC. The National Weather Service rated 60 of them F5 or EF5 and 596 F4 or EF4, and tornadoes killed 6,341 people. From 2016 to 2025 the US averaged 1,317 tornadoes a year; 2025 had 1,383, with 67 deaths. In 2026, SPC has logged 1,523 preliminary tornado reports through November 6, 2026.

Counts of weak tornadoes rose over the decades as radar, spotters and population grew, so the record undercounts F0/EF0 tornadoes in early years. Strong tornadoes (F3/EF3 and above) are the more consistent series.
