Free Hail Alerts by Email

IndependentNot affiliated with NOAA or the National Weather Service.

Get an email when NOAA radar estimates hail of 1 inch or larger within 3 miles of your home. Free, at most one email per storm day, and you can stop them with one click.

Privacy. We keep your email, your ZIP code and your location rounded to about 100 meters, never your street address. The address goes only to the US Census Bureau's geocoder to find its location. As you type, the text is also sent to Google to suggest addresses. We never sell or share your email, and every alert has a one-click unsubscribe link.

How the alerts work

  1. Enter your email and a street address or ZIP code. We save the location as a point rounded to about 100 meters and the ZIP code, not the address.
  2. We email you a confirmation link. Nothing else is sent until you click it.
  3. Each morning, after NOAA's radar hail data for the previous storm day is in (usually by mid-morning Eastern time), we check your point. If radar estimated hail of 1″ or more within 3 miles, you get one short email with the largest estimate, how close it was, and a link to that day's storm page with the map and storm reports.

What an alert is and isn't

An alert means NOAA's radar estimated hail of that size in grid cells near your saved location. It is not a measurement at your property and doesn't show whether hail hit or damaged your roof, car or anything else. Use it as a reason to look, alongside an inspection and your insurer's records.

Want the history too? Look up hail at your address for every day since October 2019, or read how to check if it hailed at your address.

Radar hail: NOAA MRMS Maximum Estimated Size of Hail (MESH), daily maximum on a 0.01° grid (about 1 km), from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet archive. MESH estimates the largest hail aloft in each grid cell; it is not a measurement on the ground (what MESH is and isn't, methodology).
Location: US Census Bureau Geocoder; ZIP code centers from the Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas.
