Nebraska tornado history

From 1950 through 2025, 3,276 tornadoes touched Nebraska, according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, the 5th most of the 48 contiguous states and DC. The National Weather Service rated 35 of them F4/EF4 or stronger (1 F5/EF5); along their paths they killed 63 people and injured 1,336. The deadliest, on June 7, 1953, was rated F4 and killed 11 (Sherman County). From 2016 to 2025, Nebraska averaged 45 tornadoes a year. SPC has logged 54 preliminary tornado reports in Nebraska in 2026 (latest September 17, 2026).
