Ohio tornado history

From 1950 through 2025, 1,411 tornadoes touched Ohio, according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, the 22nd most of the 48 contiguous states and DC. The National Weather Service rated 23 of them F4/EF4 or stronger (4 F5/EF5); along their paths they killed 247 people and injured 5,597. The deadliest, on April 3, 1974, was rated F5 and killed 36 (Greene County). From 2016 to 2025, Ohio averaged 37 tornadoes a year. SPC has logged 44 preliminary tornado reports in Ohio in 2026 (latest September 9, 2026).
