Missouri tornado history

From 1950 through 2025, 2,741 tornadoes touched Missouri, according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, the 9th most of the 48 contiguous states and DC. The National Weather Service rated 45 of them F4/EF4 or stronger (2 F5/EF5); along their paths they killed 466 people and injured 5,185. The deadliest, on May 22, 2011, was rated EF5 and killed 158 (Newton County). From 2016 to 2025, Missouri averaged 51 tornadoes a year.
