December 2021 storm reports: hail, wind and tornadoes

In December 2021, 127 hail, 1,105 damaging-wind and 233 tornado reports were logged on 21 storm days across 33 states. The largest hail reported was 4.00″ (grapefruit size) in Lyon County, KS on December 15, 2021. The most hail reports came on December 5, 2021 (29). Tornadoes killed 89. Radar estimated hail of 1 inch or larger on 22 days; the widest swath, on December 10, 2021, covered 487 square miles.
