“Radar at the address” is the NOAA MRMS MESH estimate for the ~1 km grid cell that contains the address; “none” means no radar hail estimate of 0.75″ or more at this point that day. The other radar columns are the largest estimate in any grid cell whose center is within ½, 1, 3 or 5 miles; “–” means under 0.75″ within that distance. Approximate time near the address: the 30-minute windows in which NOAA MRMS radar first estimated hail of 0.75″ or more, or its largest estimate of the day, in the 0.05° radar blocks (about 3.5 by 3 miles) that reach within 1 mile of the address, in local time. “Radar, within 5 mi” means radar hail that day was only farther out. Radar timing starts August 1, 2021; for earlier days, or when radar has no time, the times of NOAA Storm Prediction Center hail reports within 5 miles are shown and labeled as report times. A storm day runs from 12:00 UTC to 12:00 UTC the next day (7 a.m. to 7 a.m. Eastern, 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Central), so a storm on the evening of your date counts on that date, and one after midnight but before 7 a.m. Eastern counts on the day before. If you aren't sure, check the day before and after.

What the National Weather Service wrote
No National Weather Service narrative in our copy of the NOAA Storm Events database for these dates in the counties around this address. Our copy keeps a few narratives per storm day nationwide, and NCEI adds each month about three to four months after it ends; the full record is in the NOAA Storm Events Database.
NWS tornado survey paths within 10 miles
No NWS damage-survey tornado path within 10 miles of this address on these dates in the Damage Assessment Toolkit records we hold (mostly 2010 on).

Date of loss: the largest and most recent hail near this address
Insurers and adjusters usually ask for a date of loss. These are the storm days with the largest radar-estimated hail near this address, the most recent days with 1″ or more within 3 miles, and the largest hail reported within 5 miles. They are candidate dates to check against an inspection, not proof that hail hit the property.

NWS tornado survey paths within 5 miles

Methodology
- Location. The address was matched by the US Census Bureau geocoder to a point interpolated along its street block. That point can be tens of meters from the building.
- Radar-estimated hail (MESH). NOAA's Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor system estimates the largest hail in each ~1 km grid cell from radar reflectivity aloft. We use the daily maximum for each storm day (12:00 UTC to 12:00 UTC, about 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. Eastern) from October 1, 2019, keep cells of 0.75″ and up that pass our quality checks for radar clutter, and report the largest value in any cell whose center is within 1, 3 and 5 miles of the address. MESH is an estimate of hail aloft: it can over- or under-state what reached the ground, and it does not show where on the ground the largest stones fell.
- Radar at the address. “Radar at the address” is the MESH value of the one ~1 km grid cell (0.01°) that contains the geocoded point, and “within ½ mi” the largest value in any cell whose center is within half a mile. “None” means no radar hail estimate of 0.75″ or more at this point that day. A storm can drop hail on one side of a cell and not the other, so neighboring cells matter too.
- About when. NOAA keeps a running 24-hour maximum of MESH, and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet archives it every 30 minutes from August 1, 2021. For each grid cell we find the 30-minute window in which the running maximum first reached 0.75″ and the one in which it reached the day's largest value, keep cells that pass our quality checks, merge the windows over 0.05° blocks (about 3.5 by 3 miles), and show the windows of the blocks that reach within 1 mile of the address (or within 5 miles, labeled, if radar hail that day was only farther out). Times are in the address's local time. This is when radar estimated hail aloft, to within about half an hour, not a ground observation. Before August 1, 2021, or when radar gives no window, we show the times of NOAA Storm Prediction Center hail reports within 5 miles that day, labeled as report times.
- Storm reports. NOAA Storm Prediction Center reports from spotters, the public, emergency managers and NWS staff: hail and damaging wind since 1955, tornadoes since 1950 (start point). Distance is from the address to the logged report point, which is often rounded to a town or crossroads. The latest year's reports are preliminary until NOAA finalizes them. A missing report does not mean no hail fell.
- Narratives. NOAA NCEI Storm Events entries written by NWS offices, matched by storm day and county (counties of the nearby reports and of the nearest town).
- Tornado survey paths. NWS Damage Assessment Toolkit tracks; the distance is to the closest point of the mapped path.
- What it can't tell you. Whether hail fell on this property, how large it was there, or whether anything was damaged. Use an inspection and your insurer's records for that.

What this is and isn't. This report lists radar-estimated hail sizes and public storm reports near this address. Radar estimates are for ~1 km grid cells around the location, not measurements at the property, and reports are what spotters, the public and NWS staff reported at points nearby. Nothing here shows whether hail hit or damaged a roof, a car or anything else. Use it alongside an inspection and your insurer's records. It is not an engineering, insurance or legal opinion.
